Lufthansa Group: “shark skin” to be certified for the Airbus A330
  • Lufthansa Technik in final certification phase for AeroSHARK on an Airbus aircraft for the first time
  • Discover Airlines provides A330-300 for testing
  • Targeted certification will enable AeroSHARK on A330-200 and -300 models
  • Strategic partnership with Mastercard in the area of sustainability

The AeroSHARK “shark skin” is coming to Airbus aircraft: An A330 from Discover Airlines will be the first Airbus aircraft worldwide to be equipped with the innovative technology. Initially for flight testing—Lufthansa Technik entered the final phase of supplemental type certification for its drag-reducing surface film on the Airbus A330-200 and -300 at the end of August. Before and after the modification at Elbe Flugzeugwerke in Dresden, the long-haul jet from Discover Airlines undergoes test flights over several weeks. Read full press release.

Come for the conversation, stay for the draw. One of our guests will go home with an iPad. Register now for your chance to win!

We look forward to seeing you in Amsterdam.

Gogo Galileo FDX Satcom System for Airbus A340 – EASA STC by QCM Design
Next-generation in-flight connectivity for the Airbus A340
QCM Design is pleased to announce the issuance of an EASA STC for the installation of the Gogo Galileo FDX Satcom System on Airbus A340 aircraft.
The certification was developed following a request from Air X Charter to enhance satellite communication and in-flight connectivity capabilities on its Airbus A340, providing passengers and crew with reliable onboard internet connectivity.

A complete connectivity solution
The certified modification integrates the Gogo Galileo Full Duplex (FDX) Satellite Terminal Equipment (STE) with the aircraft's onboard Wi-Fi and communication infrastructure.
The installation includes:
  • Gogo Galileo FDX Satellite Terminal Equipment
  • SDR Gateway Routers
  • SD Wi-Fi Hubs
  • Wideband and MIMO Wi-Fi antennas
  • Ethernet networking infrastructure
  • Flight crew control and annunciation functions

The FDX antenna is installed on the upper fuselage, with the installation designed to meet the required separation criteria from existing aircraft antennas. The Wi-Fi infrastructure is distributed throughout the cabin to support effective signal coverage and passenger connectivity.
The Gogo Galileo STE combines the modem, antenna and power supply into a single Line Replaceable Unit (LRU). Together with the Satcom Direct networking equipment, the system provides in-flight internet connectivity for both passengers and crew.

Certified connectivity for the A340
This STC demonstrates QCM Design's capability to develop and certify complex connectivity modifications for widebody aircraft, combining satellite communication, cabin Wi-Fi and aircraft system integration within an EASA-approved modification.
For Airbus A340 operators considering an upgrade to their onboard connectivity, the certified QCM solution provides a proven basis for the installation of the Gogo Galileo FDX Satcom System.

QCM Design – engineering connectivity for the future
QCM Design would like to thank Air X Charter for the trust and cooperation throughout the project, as well as Gogo and all partners involved in bringing this certification to completion. Deutsche Aircraft Achieves First Flight Milestone in Landing Gear Certification Programme, Advancing D328eco® Development
Deutsche Aircraft has reached a major milestone in its landing gear certification programme with the successful completion of Low-Speed Taxi (LST) and High-Speed Taxi (HST) testing, followed by the initial phase of flight testing.

A legacy D328® aircraft operating as a dedicated flying testbed has successfully completed its first five development flights, achieving all planned test objectives. Since flight testing began on 5 August 2026, the aircraft has accumulated over 15 hours of test time with the new landing gear system, including both flight and ground testing activities. This accomplishment represents a significant step forward in the maturation and certification preparation of the next-generation D328eco®.

"The successful completion of the ground and taxi test campaign, together with the first flights of our landing gear testbed, is an important achievement," said Nico Neumann, CEO of Deutsche Aircraft." The results provide strong validation of the landing gear system and enable us to move into the next phase of flight testing as we continue the certification process. Bringing this critical system under our direct control allows us to deliver greater reliability, resilience and long-term support for our operators."

Beyond advancing D328eco certification, this milestone demonstrates Deutsche Aircraft's commitment to strengthening long-term product support and operational readiness for regional aircraft operators worldwide.
